Rise Snow, Music and Adventure Festival announces 2019 dates, exciting new venues and Alpine experiences.

Following an epic 2018 edition; still being talked about in ski resorts across Europe, Rise Winter Festival is now globally recognised as the most incredible, high octane week to be experienced in the Alps. The perfect way to get into the festive mood in the run up to Christmas in 2019, this ultimate alpine party returns bigger and better than ever from 14th - 21st December in the stunning French resort of Les Deux Alpes. This essential ‘season opener’ has swiftly cemented itself as a firm favourite with music lovers and winter sports thrill seekers alike. Once again offering an unrivalled assembly of the world’s best DJs and live acts from across the spectrum. With previous headliners such as Craig David, Seth Troxler, Clean Bandit, Gorgon City, DJ EZ, David Rodigan, Annie Mac, Sigma, Camel Phat, Craig Charles, Denis Sulta, Bicep, Kano, Solardo, Wilkinson and Skream under their belt, expect more of the same absorbing sounds in 2019.

Alongside an insane lineup, this year offers an endless list of unique and extraordinary experiences that make Rise the ultimate Party on Top of the World. You can look forward to gondola raves, a festive fancy dress ski parade, outrageous Alpine bingoTeam GB athletes presenting the Rise Snow Games, glacier yoga, healthy high breathe workshops, husky sleigh rides and arctic ice discos all soaked in that Christmas spirit high. This plays out in an impossibly perfect, snow-covered resort which oozes atmosphere, great vibes and wild times in a Christmas winter wonderland. This fantastically festive and complete alpine adventure has established itself as an immersive event like no other. With next level attention to detail when it comes to production, incredible lineups and a truly inclusive feel, this winter festival needs to be on everyone’s calendar.

Rise 2018 welcomed over 3000 people from around the world to a week of high energy music, phenomenal fun and simply crazy après ski partying culminating in a once in a lifetime trip. Highlights such as David Rodigan hosting the Christmas stage, blew the crowd away with his raw bass riddims and a first ever sunrise hike with awe-inspiring views also proved a firm favourite. As did the record abundant snowfall; allowing the adventure seekers among them to flex in the fresh pow, sunshine filled days and perfect soundtracks.

The beautiful Les Deux Alpes setting is the popular choice with those in the know and for good reason; it’s a bucket-list alpine destination that has been voted third best in Europe by The Telegraph. Each year, the Rise team transforms it with their own unique production and creates an electrifying Party on Top of the World. The 222 km of perfectly maintained pistes are served by an impressive 47 lifts so you can shred the mountain all week without getting bored; whilst taking in the picturesque views and checking out the largest snow covered glacier in Europe, which stands at over 3500m. As well as lift-accessed world class off-piste skiing, the resort is famous for its refined eateries ranging from Michelin starred French restaurants to an eclectic mix of informal world cuisines that will allow you to live like a VIP in this winter wonderland, whatever your budget.

Christmassy fun and mind-blowing tunes from a melange of bass, house, techno, hip hop, disco and live bands plays out in mountain summits under the stars, banging arenas, cosy hideaways and open-air alpine stages. For it’s 6th edition, the High Altitude Stage, Alpine Main Stage and Rise Arena will be welcoming the most monumental line up in Rise Festival history. As well as the key focus on music, snow and adventure, expect exciting new additions such as; the Piste Pretty Yurt, a place where you’ll be transformed from snow chic to arena glam, pop up ice bars making cheeky appearances around the mountain, impromptu raves in high altitude places hosted by Soundboks with special guests inviting you to the secret knees ups and James Bond-esque starlit snowmobile rides.

In 2019, the World of Rise will encompass a number of specially handpicked venue partners, bars, restaurants and other local attractions that together make up the festival village and includes the Rise Gin Bar, the Craft Beer Pub, the Guilty Pleasures Den and notorious S.M.I.T.H.Y.S with its throwback jams and old school sounds. New for this year will also be Barrels & Boards: The Wine & Cheese Experience and Bubbles Breakfast Club - a bottomless bubbles brunch for anyone and everyone, both expected to be on everyone’s agenda.

Whether you’re a seasoned pro on the slopes or think that après is more your scene and you’re just starting out on the snow, Rise Winter Festival makes sure it caters for everyone’s needs and can soothe your soul after a hard day on the hills or will test your stamina if you’re heading straight out to party. Unrivalled night time festival shenanigans meets snow and adventure in breath-taking surroundings. Ballroom is the new meatball speakeasy bringing New York to London via Italy in the heart of The City

Ballroom is a brand new eating and drinking experience in London which brings a New York underground vibe to the heart of the City. This multifaceted and stylish diner and basement bar comes from seasoned bar and restaurant entrepreneur Christian Arden. It mixes up mouth-watering Italian influenced meatballs in a New York styled eatery and comes with its own speakeasy style cocktail lounge down in the Ballroom Basement Bar. Ballroom officially opens on Wednesday 1st May and has already created a buzz during its soft launch through April.

And it’s all about the Meatballs. Christian spent his childhood in San Gimignano in Italy, watching his beloved grandmother in the kitchen cooking up all his favourite dishes. Ballroom has evolved these traditional recipes, developed the flavours and will now offer some of that Italian passion for food to the streets of London. Bellissimo.

It’s world class balls are made in house by a skilled and experienced kitchen team to either eat in or grab and go. The restaurant is mindful of food provenance using only the freshest seasonal vegetables from Covent Garden and high quality meat from HG Walter the butcher. The menu and daily special recipes include delicious hand-rolled beef, pork, Thai chicken and Moroccan lamb balls as well as fish and vegan balls. All are served with bases such as pasta of the day, couscous, creamy mash or wilted greens and a variety of sides including homemade slaws and salads.

It’s not just about the balls; in true Italian style, great coffee and pastries will be served daily from 7.00 am. Coffee comes from the renowned Caravan Coffee Roasters who are known for their focus on quality, provenance, sustainability, freshness and fair relationships with farmers.

On Ballroom Arden says;
“With Ballroom it’s back to basics for me, cool interior, fabulous food and great drinks. I just love meatballs and our vegan balls are epic.”

The setting in which you will sink these delicious eats is a mix of industrial chic and art deco styling. It is stripped back and casual but oozes a subtle sense of modern elegance with its contemporary neon lighting. The design comes from visionary Stuart Taylor, who is responsible for Rum Kitchen and Ceviche interiors in London. Once you’ve had your fill of food in this fantastically realised restaurant, it’ll be time to mosey on down into the Ballroom Basement Bar.

This is a vibey, low-lit, laidback place in which to treat yourself; a cosy underground den with exposed brick walls and tables fashioned from reclaimed parquet flooring. It’s a throwback to the old days of The City where drinking had to be accompanied by nibbles which in the Basement Bar is a selection of Tapas style meatballs. The cocktail menu offers three classics made by expert mixologists: the Negroni, the Old Fashioned and the Margarita and you can be assured they will be the best you have ever tasted. A selection of spirits, wines, lagers and craft ales are also available at the bar.

This atmospheric and authentic new speakeasy brings an exciting new dimension to eating and drinking in The City.

Milton Jones warms up for his Milton Impossible Tour at Just The Tonic Camden.

Milton Jones warms up for his Milton Impossible Tour at Just The Tonic Camden.

FEST Camden continues to lead from the front by announcing that on Wednesday April 3rd, TV comic and king of the one-liners Milton Jones is to perform a special Work in Progress Show ahead of his upcoming UK tour - Milton Impossible.

This is a unique opportunity to hear the much loved comedian test out all his latest material before he heads off on the road. It will offer a special insight into how his shows come together and the audience will experience a raw, unguarded performance jam packed with fresh and unseen material.

Milton has truly established himself as a UK favourite with the Radio Times and The Guardian both praising his fast, absurd and very funny one-liner routines. You will recognise him from the likes of Mock the Week, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Live at The Apollo as well as the Edinburgh Fringe. His sell out live tours have been performed to over 100, 000 people and many more through his hugely successful live DVDs. He has also won Sony, Chortle and Writers Guild Awards and has written sitcoms for Channel 4 as well as a novel, Where Do Comedians Go When They Die?

His latest show Milton Jones: MILTON IMPOSSIBLE reveals the truth about his former life as an international spy prior to being given a disappointing new identity which forced him to appear on TV. Milton Impossible is also a love story with a twist, or at least a really bad sprain. Is it gloriously daft nonsense or is there a deeper meaning? You’ll have to come along to find out.

This show is part of the Just The Tonic residency at FEST, which has already established itself as Camden’s most side splitting and forward looking comedy night out. Boasting a fresh mix of stars of tomorrow and well established names, the promotion hosts all over the country and is a regular and much loved part of the annual Edinburgh Fringe. Milton Jones is one of their biggest headliners to date and many more will appear at FEST over the next few months.

For a night of unrivalled laughs, there is nowhere finer than Just The Tonic At Fest Camden. Tickets start at £15 and are available at justthetonic.com

London Shuffle launches new table shuffleboard bar, Crazy Eight, in Shoreditch.

London Shuffle launches new table shuffleboard bar, Crazy Eight, in Shoreditch.

London’s leading shuffleboard venue is branching out with a brand new table shuffleboard bar in Shoreditch. Crazy Eight will offer this hugely popular socially competitive experience in a subterranean games lounge that boasts high end cocktails from acclaimed mixologists as well as a delicious array of handcrafted pizzas.

Crazy Eight is a newly opened table shuffleboard bar at London Shuffle Club’s Ebor Street site in Shoreditch. You will find it housed in an atmospheric basement that has been converted into a welcoming lounge with panelled walls, polished concrete floors and on trend neon lighting. The bar’s name is derived from an old school variation of the game called Crazy Eight. This industrial yet cosy space is the perfect place to enjoy an authentic game of table shuffleboard.

This most addictive of contests simply involves two teams of players sliding weighted pucks along super smooth tables with the aim of landing them in the scoring zone at the other end. Shufflers can choose to play on either of the two classic 18ft tables or the two ‘snapback’ tables - a square version of the game where the puck is rebounded off a back bar to land in the scoring zone.

Crazy Eight has also enlisted some of London’s most revered mixologists to serve up scrumptious, unusual and innovative cocktails to keep the good times flowing. You can sip them as you play, or around the cocktail island, soaking up the infectious vibes this venue has to offer while watching the master mixers at work. From golden rums to fruity vodkas, lavender infused gins to coffee and tequila specials, the cocktail menu is stimulating. A fine range of spirits, mocktails, premium beers and ciders are also on offer.

You’ll need plenty of energy to keep your game up, so hand-rolled, stone baked pizzas made from the freshest homemade dough are available. These include the vegan friendly Earth Child with beetroot, rocket, red onions, basil and hemp seeds, the Bay of Pigs with salami and double bacon and the chilli beef, peppers and Red Leicester of Lost in Tijuana which sit alongside many more sumptuous options.

The 60 person capacity inimitably chic underground venue is available for private hire as well as walk-ins and offers the most authentic, no gimmicks, shuffleboard experience in all of London.

Table prices start at £10 per hour and are recommended for groups of 4 or more. Find out more at londonshuffle.com

Queens Yard Summer Party is expanding to a two day festival in 2019 and promises to be a perfect way to explore a vast array of music, arts, culture and gastro food and drink without having to tussle with tents, manage mud or wrestle with the weather.

Musically, a wide range of cultured scenes and sounds will be explored across both days, with cutting edge DJs from the worlds of house, techno, disco, drum & bass, UKG, acid house, dubstep and everything in between. You can enjoy your favourite acts as well as discover new loves you never knew existed, all while enjoying some superb food and drink from the most passionate vendors in their fields as well as learning about subcultures you’ve only ever read about. Because the UK is such a vital and innovative musical wonderland, this festival shines a light on that; on the labels, parties and artists that keep the nation's soundscape forever on the move and ahead of the rest of the world. All this plays out in a range of exciting and unusual spaces such as warehouses, taprooms, a terrace, brewery facility, boat, yards, canal side-cafes, theatre, botanical gardens, lofts, basements and maybe even a fridge.

Away from the music, this eclectic yet boutique festival offers plenty more activities, including boulder wall climbing experiences at Hackney Wick Boulder Project, lessons in transformational breathing with expert Stuart Sandeman, meditative gong rituals with Himalayan singing bowls and throat singing, yoga with leading yogi Delphine, a tea ceremony with Tom Kenning and a renegade discussion with Dr Alex Pardois about magic mushroom microdosing. The entire festival will come alive with a range of contemporary artists who will set up installations and exhibits to really get you thinking.

To keep you well fuelled across the weekend an interesting selection of food is served up from kitchens and pop up food traders at various locations across ‘The Wick’. Esteemed locals offer seasonal menus and flavours from all round the world including dishes like Jackfruit tacos with charred corn salsa at** Barge East**, hand-rolled stone-baked pizzas at CRATE, Grizzly Bear Burgers with Bacon Jam from Burger Bear and Shredded Confit Duck Fries at Number 90 Bar & Kitchen. There are more food traders to be announced.

Of course, you’ll want to wash that down with something equally delicious, and a range of leading breweries will be on hand to help. The Beer Merchants Tap offers 20 keg taps and two cask pumps as well as over 500 bottled beers, Howling Hops Brewery and Tank Barshowcase modern, uncompromised, flavoursome, generously hopped beers and you can also look forward to plenty of natural wine and many other delights.

The whole festival will support MAP Charity for disadvantaged children out of mainstream education and mental health charity MIND.

The UK's biggest craft beer festival returns to East London with 155 breweries, more street food, more music and 12,000 visitors

CBR18_FRI-620 (1).jpg

The UK's biggest craft beer festival returns to East London with 155 breweries, more street food, more music and 12,000 visitors

Hugely influential Craft Beer Rising Festival is the ultimate craft beer, street food and music experience for both industry experts and passionate hobbyists alike. Building on the huge success of last year’s event, the seventh edition of CBR returns from 21st to 23rd February 2019 for three days of expertly brewed beers, mouth watering street food and a world class soundtrack at Truman Brewery on London’s iconic Brick Lane.

Truly all encompassing, there will be more beer, food and DJs than ever before at CBR19, with 178 stands and 155 of the finest breweries in the game all waiting to tantalise your tastebuds and show you the future. This annual gathering is where the world’s best breweries show off their new brews for the forthcoming year giving you a sneak preview of ales expected to create a stir in the year ahead. CBR has become the UK’s biggest and best loved craft ale festival; more than 12,000 visitors are expected in 2019 as the potential of craft beer continues to grow and take ever larger shares of the UK beer market.

A quick overview of this year’s carefully tweaked and subtly evolved event reveals that, across the three days, there will be two trade sessions and four consumer sessions, with 10 cider and 8 snack producers in attendance. There is also the Fox’s Den, a brand new space where food offerings, brewery and spirit partner spaces come together so you can immerse yourself in the latest emerging trends in the sector, while the Beer Hall also has a new, slick layout. There will also be new seating areas to enjoy so you can sit, sip and soak up the occasion in comfort, as well as more entertainment, more street food and more speakers for 2019.

All 155 breweries taking part in CBR19 will be announced before the event but currently, well established stars Brewdog are confirmed next to homegrown UK favourites turned globally recognised greats like London Fields Brewery, Mondo, Tiny Rebel and Fourpure. On top of that, Brooklyn Brewery and Goose Island will be both coming over from the States to bring some international flavours, and hot, rising stars Lost and Grounded and Bianca Road are amongst many others also exhibiting.

The exciting all-female brewery Mothership will also be launching and exhibiting their first brews at this year’s event. They draw on beer history which in fact most often saw women doing the brewing, and they are making drinks to be enjoyed by all including three new beers for Spring Summer 2019: the award wining Galaxy DDH IPA, a Brut pale ale fermented with champagne yeast and a cardamom and rose milk stout, all of which have to be tasted to be believed.

In addition, a wealth of low alcohol brewers will also be at the show, as well as award winning, full flavour but alcohol free game changers Big Drop and Infinite Sessions. This taps into the fact that low alcohol drinks is one of the fastest growing markets, while the presence of small, large and international breweries produces a sense of community between vendors and drinkers.

The festival’s speakers programme is all curated once more by beer expert Melissa Cole and each year features talks on topics such as ethics and equality in brewing, food and beer pairing and emerging trends and markets. The full line up of breweries, street food, speakers and entertainment will be announced in the coming months.

CBR’s unique blend of craft beer, street food and music makes for an unpretentious, exuberant beer festival unrivalled in the UK. Whether you are 'craft-curious', a fully-fledged beer geek or just looking for a fantastic day out with fellow foodies this festival is not to be missed.

Tickets are now on sale and will sell out, so head without delay to craftbeerrising.co.uk

The Shuffle Brunch is London’s unique new socially competitive brunch, launching at London Shuffle Club

Since opening in July, London Shuffle Club has welcomed thousands of people for countless days and nights of open air shuffleboard fun on the amazing terrace. The new, permanent venue has proved hugely successfully and helped shuffleboard become the hottest new trend in the capital. Now, the next chapter is here and brings with it a first ever Shuffle Brunch which will include two hours of bottomless beer, Prosecco and pizza for all.  Following the launch weekend on 22nd and 23rd September, Shuffle Brunch will be offered every Saturday and Sunday throughout the year.

This new shuffleboard venue has become an industry leader and makes for an immersive, authentic and exciting day or night out with fun, bold, contemporary and original themes. London Shuffle features 6 indoor alley-style lanes with an all new look that is effortlessly fresh and modern, plus 2 outdoor lanes on a real sun-trap of a terrace. Outside, a stylish Airstream will be offering a carefully curated selection of craft ales and inside an easy-to-drink selection of beers will keep you well watered.

The all new Shuffle Brunch ticket price includes two hours of bottomless beer, Prosecco and pizza made by the legendary Luca and his fab team. Four varieties of pizza include vegetarian and vegan options, with gluten free bases on request, plus an all new English Breakfast pizza as well as the much-loved spiced Cajun chicken option. Tickets include at least 30 minutes shuffleboarding time so you can give the hottest new game in town a really good go, as well as your own private table for you and your pals.

What’s more, you’ll get to enjoy this to a soundtrack of all the best funk, soul and disco tunes from hand-picked DJs making this a totally unique way to spend your afternoon. Tickets range from £20 on the opening weekend to £32.50 on regular Saturdays. Sessions are strictly ticketed and run from midday to 2pm, and 2:30pm to 4:30pm with some lanes reserved for walk-ins.

London Shuffle Club has become one of the most fun, addictive and socially competitive ways to spend your days and nights in this city and the Shuffle Brunch is an exciting addition to its offer.
