The Hawke is a cosy, neighbourhood pub in Lauriston Village doing incredible small & medium plate food, with delicious Sunday Roast options. The vegetarian option was roast celeriac when we visited.
Generous portions and accommodating friendly staff. This little local gem is certainly worth a visit.

Now under the management of Artfarm, the hospitality arm of the renowned gallerists Hauser & Wirth, this glammed-up gastropub, alongside the sophisticated Mount St. Restaurant upstairs, offers traditional classics with exceptional panache. While a pianist plays in the background, begin your meal with a half pint of fresh prawns and mayo. Then, indulge in an exquisite beef roast accompanied by Yorkshire puddings filled with a surprise stew, perfectly roasted potatoes, a variety of seasonal vegetables), and an appetizing side of cauliflower cheese. This is the epitome of what a London pub roast should be: absolutely flawless.
The Camberwell Arms - SE5
Renowned for its exceptional Sunday roast, the well-designed Camberwell Arms elevates the classic dish to new heights. Eclectic starters, such as celeriac, tarragon, and caper fritters with almond aïoli, precede the main event. A choice of five roasts, typically including spit-roasted chicken, roast pork belly, braised lamb, lamb steak, or dry-aged hereford beef, are generously served for two to share, along with something unique like a pie or seasonal game. For dessert, ice creams, sorbets, and cheeses delight those with remaining room. The pub's streamlined, 1940s brasserie aesthetic, featuring pastel walls, bare tables, dangling lights, and salvaged furniture, complements the straightforward service, rotating guest ales, and affordably priced wine list.
Smokehouse Islington - N1
At this well-known joint tucked away in an Islington backstreet, meat takes center stage. It seamlessly blends the atmosphere of a pub and a restaurant. Sunday roasts here are exceptional, as the carefully selected meat is smoked in-house. The lamb shoulder is a delectable mound with fantastic burnt ends that effortlessly fall apart when prodded with a fork. However, the smoked porchetta and beef sirloin are equally tempting choices. Impressively, first-rate Yorkshire puddings are a standard accompaniment, eliminating any concerns about portion envy. The starters are equally outstanding, while the sticky toffee pudding is an irresistible treat that will leave you craving more. The beer menu features a wide range of intriguing global brews.
The Prince Arthur - E8
The Prince Arthur was revived by the foodcentric team Emma Piggott and Jonathan Mercer in 2022. Since then, it has gained renown for alluring talented chefs and serving one of the finest roasts in Hackney. Vegetarians delight in the ratatouille and pangrattato with preserved lemon salsa verde, while meat lovers indulge in roast chicken accompanied by anchovy and basil butter. Every roast is complemented by hispi cabbage, glazed heritage carrots, a roasted shallot, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, and gravy. A magnificent rarebit cauliflower cheese is available on the side dishes.
Clapton Country Club - E5
Housed in an old tram shed often used for weddings, this unconventional Sunday lunch venue boasts a captivating ambiance with chandeliers, parquet floors, and a warm atmosphere. Beyond its captivating decor, Clapton Country Club offers live jazz music, complementing its delectable offerings. Indulge in their famous massive Yorkshire puddings and generous portions of succulent meat. Vegetarians and vegans are not forgotten, as there are always enticing options to cater to their dietary preferences. Remarkably, if you reside locally, you can treat yourself to their delectable roast delivered straight to your doorstep. Oh, and it’s also Paloma Faith’s fave.

Head to Kentish Town for a memorable Sunday roast at the picturesque Parakeet Pub. Immerse yourself in the ambiance of pistachio-colored booths, wood-paneled walls, stunning stained glass windows, and captivating paintings by Ghanaian artist Theophilus Tetteh.
Foodies will delight in the menu overseen by chefs Ben Allen and Ed Jennings, formerly of Brat. Their culinary creations include flame-grilled lamb, succulent roast beef, wonderfully crispy roast chicken, and a unique celeriac wellington. Each dish is accompanied by a sumptuous array of gravy, dressed spring greens, fluffy roast potatoes, sweet carrots, a Yorkshire pudding, and a delectable carrot and swede purée.
Don't miss the dessert menu, which features a decadent sticky toffee pudding or a bowl of blackberries and cream adorned with white chocolate, cherry granita, and refreshing mint.
The Laundry - SW9
Nestled adjacent to the vibrant Brixton market is the lively Laundry Brixton bistro, a neighborhood favorite housed in a lovingly-restored former Edwardian laundry. While this bistro offers playful twists on traditional Sunday lunches, the highlight is undoubtedly the surf and turf. This exceptional dish features the Hereford sirloin with chili butter, alongside a grilled half-shell scallop, fluffy Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, minted peas, glazed carrots, and silky gravy. The roast chicken with garlic and chili butter and the Hereford sirloin with creamed horseradish are also failsafe options, but the surf and turf is the star of the show.
